One of the most beautiful of cockatoo species with it's soft, delicate pink feathers and striking crest stripes. The Major Mitchell is considered endangered with flocks being greatly reduced in number over the last 50 years. Some of this has been caused by bird stealing from the wild to sell to the pet trade, and nesting sites have been destroyed by chopping open trees to get to the birds. The recent DNA testing of birds has to a major degree stopped this happening. Nothing, however, has stopped the explosion of the Galah population and they are taking over nesting sites of the Major Mitchell's Cockatool. Along with their habitat degrading, this Is putting great pressure on the bird. Feral Honey Bees are also taking over nesting sites and killing young birds.
Major Mitchell's FEED: Seeds, grasses, nuts, fruit, berries, Insects & their larvae.
