Peafowl
Peafowl are the large, colorful and most magnificent birds found in Asia and Africa belonging to the pheasant family(typically blue and green).The male is known as peacock while female is called peahen.
Plumage:
The plumage of the Indian peafowl is blue-green or only green.The peacock tail ("train") is not the tail quill feathers but the highly elongated upper tail covert feathers.The peacock tail contains a lot of little eye spots on his plumage.When the male displays his plumage the eye spots can be clearly seen.
The Indian Peahen has a mixture of dull green brown and grey color in her plumage.In order to warn pea chicks from danger or to ward off female competition female peafowl displays her plumage.Both male and female peafowl have a crest on the head.
Behavior:
Peafowls nests on the ground but roost on the trees.They are terrestrial feeders.Peafowl are mostly polygamous.
Diet:
Peafowls are omnivorous. They eat plant parts, grass, insects, seeds, flower petals and other reptiles and amphibians.
