The Montezuma Quail is a stubby, secretive New World quail of Mexico and some nearby parts of the United States.Male has striking black-and-white face markings, rounded buff crest, and bold white spots on sides and flanks. Female duller, face markings less obvious.Breeds in montane pine-oak and oak scrub.
Nest on the ground, sometimes under a bush, and usually built into the side of a tuft of grass or herbage. These Montezuma Quails are secretive birds and it takes one quite a while to spot them in the grassy oak woodlands in the American Southwest and western Mexico. These beautiful birds in America are under threat because of the extensive habitat degradation and destruction that has taken place as well as the increased hunting that is taking place.
